Mammals

Otters

The old otter in the video above came ashore at North Banks, and actually walked up towards the house where the children were playing outside. He curled up under some pallets, and then later casually walked back to the water and swam away. Some days later he was seen with a strong young male otter, and then was never seen again.

Orcas

Orcas are often seen in Shetland waters and around Papa Stour. It is a case of being in the right place at the right time to see them. The pictures above are taken from the cliff top in Papa Stour by John Wishart.

Seals

Seals of several varieties are a common sight in Papa Stour. Both Common and Grey seals are a regular sight amongst the bays and resting on rocks and beaches. You can even sometimes see them at the pier!
